Marine science is the study of the biological and physical aspects of the ocean. Under this stream, the topics that would be covered are Marine physics, which would include areas of study related to the density of currents in the sea, the tides, wind currents underwater. Marine Chemistry would cover topics like PH level in the ocean, metaphoric activities and seafloor spreading. Marine Biology involves the study of marine life and organisms of the sea. The students who completed the course under this stream would be called Marine Scientists or Oceanographers. To preserve the ocean’s natural resources and sea life, the Marine scientist plays a significant role. The Marine Scientist with biology as major would examine the plants and sea organism. The primary physics students would keep a check on the temperature, climate, and waves. The primary chemical student would be analyzing the chemical properties of the ocean. Fisheries is one of the man essential sectors in India which is contributing a considerably large portion to the Indian economy. It has also employed millions of people. Fisheries science includes the study of fisheries resource management, fish processing and technology associated with the same, environment and extension of fisheries. The Marine and Fisheries science could be studied at a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Doctorate level. Scope Marine and Fisheries industry is contributing majorly to the food sector. It is a livelihood to a large part of the population and also provides employment. The students who have pursued Marine and Fisheries Science can work in government sectors like MPDEA and FSI. In the government sectors, they can work as Inspector of Fisheries, Research assistants, Assistant Directors, Fisheries Development Officer. The students can also be self-employed and start a business. They can work in colleges and universities. They work as an Instructor, Research assistants, Biologist, and Biochemist. They can also be employed in the food processing technology sector. Which state in India focuses mainly on Fisheries? Andra Pradesh is contributing majorly to the Indian Economy through the Fisheries sector. Q4. Is there a difference between Marine Science and Marine Biology? Marine Biology is one of the subjects or Marine Science. Marine Biology covers only the study of ocean organisms. However, Marine Science on the overall covers, chemical and physical part of the ocean too. Q5. What is the fee range for a Master’s degree in Fisheries? The Fee Structure of the Master’s degree in Fisheries would range from INR 50000 to INR 3 Lakhs. Q6. What are the types of fisheries? There are two types of fisheries, Inland or freshwater fisheries and Marine Fisheries. Q7. Why is it important to study Marine Science? The Marine Science study is important because it would help us to understand the sea, plants, resources, and its organisms completely and also would provide other details such as climate changes. Sea/Ocean and its resources have been a major source of livelihood to many by creating many job opportunities.
